The Narrator [Canon 5D]
May 1, 2007
It's been a while since I posted a Time Machine Tuesday entry. Actually, it's been awhile since I posted anything at all...two weeks to be exact. Sometimes life just gets in the way of blogging. The ancient Greeks knew that very well and it is still true to this day.
But, I digress....
Back to Time Machine Tuesday. On these days I try to post an image that was taken at least one year in the past on or close to the same date. It's a fun way to revisit images that I have forgotton about, or just to give a little exposure and blog love to photos that have not been shared before. In some cases I find a significant image in the archives, and I always have fun with the process. I highly recommend it, even if you don't have a blog (doesn't everyone have a blog these days?).
This image was taken almost exactly four years ago at a play that my then six year-old daughter was participating in. A simple photo taken from the front row of a theater full of adoring parents and friends, this eventually became the lead-off image in my series "A Measure of Longing". That series has a defnite, though non-specific, story arc and the image of a narrator, one who tells a story, was the perfect photograph to start the series. I love the red colors in this shot, and the taped "X" on the stage. The fact that the paper hides the girl's faces makes the image more universal in terms of how it fits within the entire series.
"A Measure of Longing" is in a dormant state right now. It is mostly complete, but there are a few more images that I want to round out the series. The nature of this series and the way the image are made, is that the images are gathered from my experiences and not staged, so I never really know when I will encounter a scene that will fit for this body of work. That's one of the things that made working on this series so interesting.
