This is not really a shipwreck, but that's what it looked like to me, especially from this low angle. That, or a scene from an apocalyptic movie. Actually it is the runis of an old marina along the shores of the Salton Sea south of Palm Springs, California. This was taken last month while I was recording a new photography course for lynda.com (here's a link to my other lynda.com online courses). This is a 3-minute exposure with some light painting via flashlight from the upper right part of the scene. I love how scenes can be transformed through the simple act of photographing them at night.
In other news, I am have a new workshop at the world renowned Maine Media Workshops that will be offered this summer in early August. I have taught there since 2005 and I look forward to heading back to the Maine coast to lead a new workshop on photographic creativity. More details to come in a day or two!
