I returned home yesterday from a weeklong trip to Colorado, where I taught my Creative Digital Darkroom workshop at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village. It was a full and visually inspiring week, not only from the beauty of the scenery of the Colorado Rockies, but also from all the art that other artists were creating that week in a variety of different mediums, including ceramics, painting, printmaking, woodworking, and metal sculpture.
On the third evening of the week, my students and I hiked up a switchback trail to a high point near town with a 360˚ view of the surrounding landscape for a session of night photography. We had an excellent view of nearby Mt. Daly, as seen in the photo above, as well as good views of the Milky Way over Snowmass Village. It was great to be out under the vast star scape, especially so since most of the group had never before ventured out to try and capture images of the night sky, and their excitement and enthusiasm was quite infectious.
Anderson Ranch is a wonderful place to immerse yourself in your art, both in terms of teaching, as well as learning, and I look forward to returning there next year with a new workshop offering.
